　　最新研究显示，机动车、燃煤、扬尘以及工业生产是我国大部分城市大气污染主要来源，约占85%到90%。

　　“首要污染源”即可用major pollution source表示，我们近几年重点关注的多是大气污染(airborne/air pollution)，其实，土壤污染(soil pollution)、海洋污染(sea pollution)、环境污染(environment pollution)等问题也不容忽视。Airborne除了表示“空气中的”，还有“空降的，升空的”意思，比如，The allies landed thousands of airborne troops.(盟军空投了数千人的空降部队。)

　　此次研究结果表明，北京、杭州、广州、深圳的首要污染来源是机动车(vehicles)，石家庄、南京的首要污染来源是燃煤(coal-burning)，天津、上海、宁波的首要污染来源分别是扬尘(airborne dust)、流动源(mobile sources)、工业生产(industrial production)。
